Beaufort’s Got Talent!

Check it out at the Habersham Marketplace on First Friday… The Habersham Marketplace will host its third installment of “Beaufort’s Got Talent” on Friday, June 1, from 6-8 p.m. as part of the larger FIRST FRIDAYS event, which begins at 4 p.m. and is free and open to the public. Contestants for the talent show will compete for prizes from area merchants and the winner will be awarded a performance slot at the Fourth Annual Habersham Harvest Festival in October. Those interested in competing should email talent@habershammarketplace.com. Competitors must be registered by May 30.

Community Foundation Unveils “Family”

  The winning sculpture from the 2011 Public Art Exhibition on Hilton Head Island was recently installed at Chaplin Linear Park. “Family,” a series of three horses, was purchased by the Community Foundation of the Lowcountry and donated to the Town of Hilton Head Island to be permanently installed for our community members and visitors to enjoy.

What Are We Doing?

Last weekend, a remarkable woman spoke to our congregation about her life as a missionary in Africa. She and her husband were commissioned on their honeymoon, 27 years ago, and have been living there ever since. He works with AIDS patients, she with orphans. They have eight children of their own – ranging from very young to grown – several of whom are adopted. This woman radiated a kind of earthy joy that was irresistible to me. Though there was nothing chic or glamorous about her, I found her the very definition of beautiful.

A Sailing Story

Classic Boat Rally offers small boat sailers adventure and a unique racing format… along with some really good parties!   The seventh annual Classic Boat Rally, a race in the Intercoastal Waterway from Savannah Ga. to Beaufort, S. C. was run this past April 20 and 21. The race, which is open to “sailboats of classic design having an overall length of 15 to 24 feet,” this year drew six entries, four of which were Marshall Sanderling catboats.
