Follow the Yellow Brick Road… to USCB

The Beaufort Children’s Theatre will present “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz” at USCB’s Center for the Arts during the month of May. Based on the 1920 classic “The Wizard of Oz” by L. Frank Baum, the play brings to life the young heroine, Dorothy, who is transported by a cyclone from her grandparent’s farm in Kansas to the magical Land of Oz, where she is greeted by the Munchkins of Munchkinland.

Choir Festival with Brian Jones

The Choir Festival with Brian Jones will feature the choirs of St. Helena’s along with members of choirs from Bluffton and Charlotte. The four-day festival culminates with a performance Saturday, May 19th at 7 pm. The festival will be held at the Parish Church of St. Helena, 505 Church Street in downtown Beaufort. The concert is free and open to the public.

First Presbyterian Celebrates a Century

Beaufort is a town famously steeped in history, chock full of national historic landmarks and other distinguished legacies. Having recently celebrated our city’s Tricentennial, we shouldn’t be surprised that someone’s always marking one significant milestone or another around here. Among them, this year, is the congregation of First Presbyterian Church, which has – as of 2012 – officially been in existence for 100 years.

World Goddesses at Bluffton Branch Library

Life-size oil paintings of “Goddesses in World Cultures” will be featured all summer (June 1 – September 1) at the Bluffton Branch of the Beaufort County Library System, 120 Palmetto Way, Bluffton. The work of artist and author Mary B. Kelly of Hilton Head, will display deities from Europe, Asia and the Americas. These also form the illustrations for Kelly’s book Goddess, Women, Cloth, published in 2012 and available on Amazon and Kindle.

Time & Timelessness

Mary Sullivan is the featured artist at the SOBA Gallery from June 4 through July 14. Her exhibit “Time and Timelessness,” will present all new work, exploring that theme with the poured ink abstracts for which she has become known. She will add two additional techniques which ultimately evolved from the ink paintings.
