Bringing its unique sizzle to the stage, the contemporary dance company, Hubbard Street 2 (HS2), based in Chicago, IL, will be performing at the Arts Center for one night only, at 8pm, January 18th. Celebrating 15 years this season, HS2 was founded by Julie Nakaawa Bottcher and is now led by Taryn Kaschock Russell. HS2 was recently acclaimed by the Julliard Journal Online as “….a tremendous show of virtuosity, beauty and intimacy.”

Getting All Their Frogs in the Wheelbarrow… Like of lot of folks I know, I was glad to finally have the 2012 election in the rear view mirror. Certainly the so-called battleground states, especially Ohio, a wonderful place I called home in the 80’s, must have let out a giant sigh of relief. Especially, one supposes, if their candidates won.

Friends of Hunting Island gear up for 5th Annual Pelican Plunge It was January 1st, 2010. I called my neighbor, Amy Matthews, and said, “I don’t want to hear the word ‘no.’ Come on, we’re doing the Pelican Plunge.” Unfamiliar with the event, she said, “Huh?”

LCSOPA’s Deanna Kraszewski bids a fond farewell to Beaufort. She did it her way, and we all took her lead. This 30-year-old pirouetted into Beaufort with not only the desire to teach dance, but the resolve to instill a love of the performing arts in the youth that call the Lowcountry home. And, as Deanna Kraszewski gives her last curtsy Saturday, she will certainly elicit a standing ovation from parents, grandparents, peers and friends, all of whom have benefited from her tenacity, strength and grace.
