Students Rise to Virtual Summer Reading Challenge

Hundreds of rising kindergarten through eighth-grade students are expected to register for the Beaufort County School District’s Virtual Summer Reading Challenge, which lets students log their summer reading online. Students who meet reading goals for their grade levels will earn certificates of celebration from the school district.

Alzheimer’s Family Services Dinner Showcases ‘Susan’s Desk’

The dueling piano duo of Marty Richardson and Greg Cloninger (aka El Grego) are once again bringing to Port Royal a night of music, laughter, and hopefully a bit of charitable giving. On Friday, June 15th “the show will go on” again. Dueling Pianos, sponsored in part by CBC National Bank, is Alzheimer’s Family Services’ eleventh annual dinner theatre and their major fundraiser of the year. The agency, a local non-profit, provides education, support and respite to area caregivers of persons with Alzheimer’s disease.

Art League Awards Scholarships

Since 2000, Art League of Hilton Head has awarded an annual scholarship in the amount of $2000 to a graduating high school senior who is studying or living on Hilton Head Island and attending a local high school. This year the applicants who were interviewed were of such high caliber that Art League awarded two scholarships of $1,250 each.
