The popular Books Sandwiched In (BSI) series, sponsored by the Friends of the Beaufort Library (FOL), will return in January 2015 with local authors, well-known community leaders, journalists and world travelers lined up as presenters at this free event. With a wide-range of book selection and subject matter, including those by local authors, bestsellers and fascinating prizewinners, the series has attracted large audiences for the past 29 years. Held at the University of South Carolina Beaufort’s Center for the Performing Arts, the series schedule also leaves time after each presentation for audience Q and A.

Not long ago, in an old produce stand, on Sea Island Parkway, near the Shrimp Shack, an artist created sculptures made from repurposed wood. These dockscapes feature old fishing buildings complete with shrimp boats moored out front.
