In 2019, the concept of Lowcountry PRIDE went from dream to reality when a small group of friends gathered around a kitchen table celebrating the love of two women and their new engagement. Hot Wax, Cool Paintings at BAA Gallery

    The work of artist Anne Kennedy will be featured at the Beaufort Art Association (BAA) starting March 1stand running through April 26th.  The theme of her exhibit is “Hot Wax, Cool Paintings” featuring encaustic painting, which is an unusual blend of hot wax with pigment.

Then and There, Here and Now

Did you happen to catch the special event in Columbia last week, commemorating the 75thAnniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz? It was live-streamed on SCETV, and I only knew about it because my church choir director was involved in the musical part of the ceremony. He had been asked to arrange a choral rendition of the Jewish folk song ‘Dona, Dona,’ and would be playing guitar with the Clover Choraliers – a phenomenal high school choir from the upstate – as they performed his arrangement.

‘Downtown Tennis’ takes its best shot

Local grassroots group seeks to improve the quality of Beaufort’s downtown tennis facilities while the area’s tennis community continues to grow. By Mindy Lucas It’s a bright, crisp Sunday morning in downtown Beaufort. A group of women are playing doubles tennis at the courts on the corner of Bladen and Boundary streets.  As the players trade shots, traffic passes by on Boundary, though the women seem oblivious to the noise just a few yards away.

A Musical Portrait of America

Lowcountry Wind Symphony and Beaufort High School Band Partner for ‘An American Portrait’The Lowcountry Wind Symphony Winter Concerts will be given at two different venues in Beaufort Country, South and North of the Broad River. The first is Wednesday, 7 pm February 12 at The Lowcountry Community Church, 801 Buckwalter Parkway, Bluffton. The second is Thursday, February 13, 7 pm at Beaufort High School Performing Arts Auditorium, 84 Sea Island Parkway on Lady’s Island. Both concerts are FREE and open to the public.

It’s time for some food, music and fun!   Beaufort Memorial Hospital presents the 2020 Bands, Brews & BBQ, bringing two days of food, music and fun with wings, barbecue, craft beers, live music and kids’ activities on Friday and Saturday, February 28 & 29. This year’s event will take place at The Port of Port Royal.
