United Way of the Lowcountry, Inc. starts off its 2008 community campaign with a $23,700 bang,
thanks to enthusiastic golfers and tournament sponsors during the eighth annual United Way Golf Tournament held this week at Secession Golf Club. This year’s tournament winner was Mike Boyne’s Kinghorn Insurance team from Beaufort.  Finishing in second place was presenting sponsor Rea Contracting, led by Rick Stearns. Third place went to David Moore’s Harbourside Community Bank team and fourth to the Callawassie Island team led by Brian LaSota.
 Tournament Chairman Malcolm Goodridge thanked presenting sponsor Rea Contracting, LLC; supporting sponsors Secession Golf Club, South Carolina Bank and Trust, Dividend Growth Advisors LLC, South Carolina Bank and Trust, Wachovia; contributing sponsors South Carolina Electric & Gas and EMBARQ; and participants and United Way staff for their support.
The annual United Way of the Lowcountry, Inc. fundraising effort in Beaufort and Jasper Counties will gear up in July with “pacesetter” business campaigns. This year’s goal will be announced later in the summer.  The 2007 goal was $2.7 million. Contributions will support more than 30 agencies, services and collaborations in 2008.
