Mary Kelly, Goddess of Embroidery

On Saturday, December 8, local author and artist Mary B. Kelly will sign copies of her new book, Goddess Embroideries of the Northlands, and will demonstrate painting techniques related to the current Kelly-Kerr exhibit, “Red, White and Bleu…Paintings with a French Flair” at the Hilton Head Public Library.  The event will be held at the library’s Corridor Gallery from 2 – 4 p.m.

Karen M. Peluso will be signing copies of her chapbook of poems, The Mother-Face in the Mirror, at Bay Street Trading Company, 808 Bay Street in downtown Beaufort. The bookstore will be celebrating Beaufort’s “A Night on the Town” on Friday, December 7 and author signings will be from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.

BAA Holiday Happenings

The Beaufort Art Association Gallery, located at 1001 Bay Street in downtown Beaufort, will host an opening reception on Friday, December 7, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. as the Annual Members’ Exhibit joins forces with the “Holiday Boutique.” Both the Members’ Exhibit and the Holiday Boutique will be featured during the Guild of Beaufort Galleries Art Walk that evening. The boutique was recently featured by the Beaufort Gazette’s Laura Jacobi in their glossy magazine, From House to Home, December/January 2008 issue. The Members’ Exhibit will be on display through January 5; the boutique will end December 22.

Tall, dark and handsome, Charles Desaussure exhibits FASHIONS OF ART at the House of Ahhs, 1109 Boundary St., uptown Beaufort.  The show will open December 8th  at 1:00 P.M. and continue through December 29th. Some of the most exciting art news in years, Charles Desaussure, is back in the lowcountry.  Born in Charleston, a decedent of Senegalese slaves once owned by the French Huguenot DeSaussure family, Charles will never forget his roots.  And like the proverbial son he returns time and again to his heritage as the inspiration for his work.

Islam & The West

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at USCB, announces its FALL 2007 DISTINGUISHED LECTURE SYMPOSIUM. The series of lectures, presented by retired Foreign Service Officer David D. Grimland, are titled:  “Islam and the West:  The Historical Roots of a Conflict- and What is Next?”  The dates are November 29 in Beaufort and November 30-December 1 in Bluffton.
