Fripp Island on Fire—Musically
I suspect that the name of the band from Toronto, Sultans of String, was inspired by the famous song “Sultans of Swing” by the British rock group Dire Straits, which hit the top ten charts world-wide in 1979 and celebrates musicians, albeit in London. Ask the Canadian Sultans, when they play on Fripp Island January 27, if I hit the nail on the head.

Warm Up To Chamber Music During Post-Holiday Chill
The January 13, 2019, 5:00 pm USCB Chamber Music concert features compositions for three string instruments—guitar, violin, and cello—across eight works: three for solo guitar, one for solo violin, two for cello and guitar, and two for violin and guitar. It traces an arc from old (1735) to modern (1986) and swings from North German High Baroque counterpoint to Argentinian-Barrio Tango, with two stops in Brazil, and one each in Spain, Paraguay, Venezuela.
