NAWA’s Transparency and Light Awards

About 100 art aficionados attended the opening exhibit at USCB to view the works of South Carolina Chapter National Association of Women Artists (NAWA) and to learn what art garnered awards from judge Maggie Karis.  First place was awarded to Candace Whittemore Lovely for her oil on linen, titled “Venus Goes H20” (left).  Lovely said, “The painting portrays a woman as Venus rising from the ocean,” and Karis commented, “The painting captures all the elements of the Transparency and Light theme, as well as the human form which is difficult to portray.”

Top 100 Selected for 26th Biennale

Representing 100 artists from 25 states, including South Carolina, the 26th Biennale promises to be a showcase of exemplary artwork. The national call for entries attracted more than 700 artworks from 43 states. Top pieces were selected based on originality of concept, composition and execution.

Susan Ellzey and Tommie Toner: Images in Clay and Oil 

From April 29 through June 29, the Beaufort Art Association will feature the hand-built stoneware of Susan Ellzey and the palette-knife oil paintings of Tommie Toner. An opening reception will be held in honor of the artists on Friday, May 3 from 5-8 pm at the BAA Gallery located at 913 Bay Street. The public is cordially invited.

Beware of Zontions

They are after your money! The Zonta Club of Beaufort, member of Zonta International which is celebrating its Centennial this year, has taken on the “Campaign of the Century.’  They are working to raise money to sponsor a service dog for a Woman Marine Veteran thru K9s for Warriors,  an organization which specializes in working with Vets with PTSD, Traumatic Brain Injury and Military Sexual Trauma.  Being a women’s service organization, this was the deciding factor in selecting this group over others.

Twenty Digits, One Piano


The final concert of USCB Chamber Music’s 39th season takes place on Sunday, April 14, 5:00pm. It will be a riotous affair with music of salt and sea, meditation, brilliant virtuosity, sparkling colors, and one of the great crossover works of the 20th century.

HHSO Hosts The Blakemore Trio

A fundraiser for the newly formed Hilton Head Chamber Music Institute entitled “The Blakemore Trio” will be held on Thursday, April 13, 2019 at 7:30 pm to benefit student scholarships for the new program.  The Blakemore Trio comprised of Carolyn Huebel, violin, Felix Wang, cello, and Amy Dorfman, piano, will perform Haydn, Schoenberg and Rachmaninov at HHSO SoundWaves.
