pet chocolate labLocal artist Louise Hall has been painting pet portrait commissions for over 20 years, but this is the first time that several of them will be gathered in the same place at the same time.

The first portrait Louise painted was of her chocolate lab Java. Friends liked the graphic and labradoodleswhimsical nature of the painting and soon she was booking commissions. Over the years her style has developed and changed a bit, but she continues to stay true to her original concept of creating vibrant, colorful, whimsical renditions of people’s pets. “I love dogs (she paints other animals, too) and I enjoy meeting for pictures and getting to know their personalities.”

The process of meeting the dog, the owners, and then creating a painting for them is so rewarding for Louise. “I have truly enjoyed painting every one of the commissions I have received over the years and feel so blessed to connect with people in this way. My favorite part is the delivery though, and seeing the happy look on the owner’s face. Usually some tears are involved. It can be an emotional experience.”

Come see the paintings and meet the artist at the opening reception at the USCB Gallery in Beaufort on August 1 from 5:30-7:30 pm. www.uscbcenterforthearts.com
