On Dragonboat Race Day, dozens of communities, businesses, civic organizations and clubs form teams to race 42-foot dragonboats in front of the seawall at Henry Chambers Waterfront Park in downtown Beaufort. It’s all happening Saturday, June 22, and it’s for a great cause – supporting DragonBoat Beaufort’s cancer survivor mission: “Through the physical competition of dragonboat racing and the strength of camaraderie, DragonBoat Beaufort aims to provide cancer survivors with a total sense of wellness. Additionally, our OUTREACH program supports individual cancer patients who live, work or are treated in Beaufort County with needs they cannot afford or for which they lack coverage.”

Hilton Head artist Kristin Griffis is showcasing her artwork in Music Makes the World Go ‘Round, an exhibit at Art League Gallery. Her fun and whimsical paintings feature bold colors and are inspired by music. Griffis is gifted with a form of synesthesia, an ability to see colors when hearing sounds. “I paint music. That is what inspires me. Sometimes, I paint a play on a song title, or how a song makes me feel, or how musicians look when they create their magic. Music touches all of us in some way and connects us. Music makes the world go ‘round.”

A collection of artist John Gale Kenney’s work, entitled “Coastal Kaleidoscope: A Colorful Expression of Life in the Low Country” will be featured at the Beaufort Art Association (BAA) from June 30 through Sept. 1. An opening reception will be held at the Gallery at 913 Bay Street in Beaufort on Friday, July 5, from 5 to 8 pm. Light refreshments will be served. There will also be on exhibit the work of 65 other local artists, who are members of the Gallery. The public is invited.
