T EveMillerEve Miller, acclaimed pastel and oil artist, has partnered with the Beaufort Art Association (BAA) to offer a two-day workshop in Beaufort at the Retreat on Lady’s Island.  The program will run from 10 am to 5 pm on Thursday, April 11, and Friday, April 12.  The cost is $215 for BAA members and $225 for non-members.

The workshop will focus on the three “T’s”:  Tools, Tips and Techniques for creating striking effects with texture.  Photo reference, in-studio demonstrations and individual instruction will be given daily.  Topics that will be covered include how to choose a good landscape photo based on patterns of light and dark, creating thumbnails for strong composition, underpainting and color schemes. For more information, contact Tommie Toner at baastudio2018@gmail.com, or go to the BAA website at www.beaufortartassociation.com.

A native of Brussels, Belgium, Eve moved to New York with her family and settled in the Hudson River Valley.  Sunday was a family drive to Olana, home of Frederick Church of the Hudson River School. Traveling throughout Europe as a child influenced Eve’s love of landscapes. From the fertile valleys of Western Europe to the arid texture of the Middle East, Eve always studied the variety in the landscape, and especially the changing cloud formations, which became the focus of her studies.

After earning her bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees in French and Spanish, she taught college and secondary classes. She continued with her art, studying with Albert Handell, Richard McKinley, Bill Creevey, Barbara Jaenicke and other prominent, contemporary, award-winning panelists, such as Sally Strand and Kim Lordier. Her artistic memberships include the Pastel Society of America, as well as a Juried Member of The Pastel Guild of Europe, and numerous other art groups. In 2003, she moved to Beaufort, SC. The Lowcountry’s beauty in the surrounding coastline and marshes have been the inspiration for her current work, which she terms “visual poetry.”  She teaches privately and in workshops. Her work can be seen at Evemillerfineart.com.

Chartered in 1957, the Beaufort Art Association is a tax-exempt membership organization. Currently, there are around 175 local artists who are members, 65 of whom exhibit in the Gallery.  To find out more, call (843) 521-4444, or go to our website at www.beaufortartassociation.com.
