For seven years the “Dataw Dames & Dandies” have been waging war on cancer. The “Dames & Dandies” are a team of Dataw residents who routinely participate in the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life. The various fundraisers they have conducted during this timeframe have generated more than $120,000 – all of which went directly to the American Cancer Society.

The Dames & Dandies are active once again in support of this year’s Relay which will be held in April  at the Naval Hospital Beaufort. On March 20th they will conduct a “Boot Sale” on the grounds of the Grayco Home Center on Lady’s Island. While it is unlikely that one could purchase an actual boot at this sale; it is highly likely that one could purchase many needed or desired items. The “boot sale” is more like a “tag sale” or “yard sale” but was named for the British tradition of placing items for sale in the trunks (boots) of their vehicles, driving out to the countryside and opening their “boots” for business along the roadside.

This year’s sale will include “treasures” from many Dataw residents displayed from the “boots” of 15 to 20 vehicles from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. The “boots” will display jewelry, furniture, clothing, lawn equipment, books, records, electronics, plants, small appliances, baked goods, and much, much more. In addition to the sale the Beaufort Classic Car Club will be displaying their impressive array of beautifully maintained cars in the parking lot adjacent to the “Boot Sale”.

Please plan to drop by the “Boot Sale” and help the Dames & Dandies fight cancer.
