Poetry Month Continues at Conroy Center

Hear these Beaufort poets and five other diverse South Carolina poets read at the launch of Archive: South Carolina Poetry Since 2005 on Saturday, April 27, from 5 pm at the Pat Conroy Literary Center. Published by Ninety-Six Press, Archive features 46 contributors, documenting the poetic life of the Palmetto State over the past 13 years.  This event is free and open to the public; copies of Archive will be available for sale and signing after the reading.

Anything but Trivial: William Trask & Holly Konoza Trivia Night 

Over 250 people attended the fourth annual William Trask and Holly Konoza Trivia Night fundraiser on April 6th in support of Beaufort Young Life,a non-profit organization that serves hundreds of area teens. Honoring Beaufortonians Holly Konoza and William Trask, who founded Beaufort Young Life in 2006, this year’sevent grossed over $30,000 through ticket sales, sponsorships and a Silent Auction. It is the most successful Young Life event of the year.

NAWA’s Transparency and Light Awards

About 100 art aficionados attended the opening exhibit at USCB to view the works of South Carolina Chapter National Association of Women Artists (NAWA) and to learn what art garnered awards from judge Maggie Karis.  First place was awarded to Candace Whittemore Lovely for her oil on linen, titled “Venus Goes H20” (left).  Lovely said, “The painting portrays a woman as Venus rising from the ocean,” and Karis commented, “The painting captures all the elements of the Transparency and Light theme, as well as the human form which is difficult to portray.”

Top 100 Selected for 26th Biennale

Representing 100 artists from 25 states, including South Carolina, the 26th Biennale promises to be a showcase of exemplary artwork. The national call for entries attracted more than 700 artworks from 43 states. Top pieces were selected based on originality of concept, composition and execution.
