Shakespeare Rep continues its Season of Wonders with a modernized interpretation of Shakespeare’s most popular comedy. Set in 1967, the Summer of Love, A Midsummer Night’s Dream brings a lot of happy vibes and great music to help fuel the comic masterpiece.
For this production, the Shakespeare Rep Resident Company is joined by several guest stars from London and across the US. Stephen Spencer, one of Chicago’s favorite actors, stars as Nick Bottom, a laborer whose hilarious misadventures in a forest inhabited by feuding fairies make him one of the most beloved characters in dramatic literature. London actor Jean-Marc Perret plays the mischievous fairy Puck. Santiago Sosa, also from Chicago – and last seen as Shakespeare Rep’s Macbeth – will take the role of Oberon, while Chicago’s Stuart Mott and London’s Rebecca Moore join the cast as Demetrius and Titania.
A Midsummer Night’s Dream will have only five performances, March 19 – 22: Thursday at 10 am (school and senior matinee); Thursday – Saturday at 7:30 pm, and Sunday at 3 pm. All performances are at the USCB Center for the Arts at 805 Carteret in Beaufort. Tickets are $15 for seniors and students; $20 for adults.
