“I wear the ring.” So begins Pat Conroy’s storied 1980 novel The Lords of Discipline, adapted for film in 1983 staring David Keith (who had previously appeared in The Great Santini).

Three of this year’s Pat Conroy Literary Festival sessions will highlight The Lords of Discipline. On Friday, October 27, at 4:00 p.m., Conroy’s Citadel classmate and fellow author John Warley will discuss the legacy of The Lords of Disciple as novel and film with Citadel English professor Sean Heuston, who has been teaching the novel at the Citadel for more than a dozen years. Following an intermission (with refreshments and a cash bar), at 6:00 p.m., a film version of The Lords of Discipline will be screened. The following morning, Saturday, October 28, at 10:00 a.m., The Lords of Discipline screenwriter Thomas Pope will (remotely) discuss the making of the film with Ron Tucker, executive director of the Beaufort International Film Festival. Each of the three events has a registration fee of $10 (or is included in the festival’s weekend pass of $100), and each will be held at the USC Beaufort Center for the Arts at 805, Carteret Street in downtown Beaufort.

The 8th annual Pat Conroy Literary Festival will be held this Thursday through Sunday, October 26-29, featuring discussions with bestselling visiting authors, book signings, writers workshops, a musical performance by the Beaufort Mass Choir, and a closing reception.
