Mark your calendar today for the 6th Annual Literacy Volunteers of the Lowcountry’s Cooks & Books celebration set for Sunday, February 12, from 11:30-3:00 pm at The Westin Hilton Head Island Resort & Spa! The Westin is Presenting Sponsor.
The afternoon promises the perfect recipe for curing the mid-winter blahs. Sample gourmet food prepared by award winning Lowcountry restaurants. Mingle with Southern authors. Purchase autographed books and watch a stirring chefs’ competition, “The Heat Is On.”
Coordinated by the Friends of Literacy, this highly anticipated event draws locals and visitors alike to an afternoon of food and fun for the entire family. Sonny Dixon of WTOC-TV Channel 11 will serve as master of ceremonies.
Admission to Cooks & Books is $15 in advance and $20 at the door. The ticket includes unlimited tastings, access to the more than a dozen Lowcountry authors, the chefs’ competition, “The Heat Is On” and the opportunity to vote for a favorite tasting in “The Peoples’ Choice.”
Begin the Cooks & Books weekend with an elegant Preview Party Friday, February 10 from 6:00 to 9:00 PM at TidePointe – A Vi Community on Hilton Head Island. Enjoy a lavish dinner buffet, an open bar and a unique silent auction. TidePointe is Presenting Sponsor. Tickets are $75 per person.
The proceeds of the two events benefit Literacy Volunteers of the Lowcountry. LVL has been serving Beaufort County for nearly four decades, bettering the lives of area residents through their Adult Basic Education and ESOL programs. Nancy Williams, Executive Director of LVL, sums up the agency’s impact: “Since its inception, Literacy Volunteers of the Lowcountry has equipped more than 8,000 area adults with the reading, writing, speaking, and math skills they’ve need to become self-sufficient members of our communities. With the help of more than one hundred volunteer tutors, we offer high-quality literacy services for a modest fee, enabling our students to become better parents, employees, and citizens.”
