The Art Gallery at the University of South Carolina Beaufort presents “National Postcards,” a traveling exhibit of 50 postcard-sized works of art, each created by a different artist to represent their state. Jeanne Voltura, Director of the Bridge Gallery, Las Vegas, NV, assembled the collection and hosted its opening exhibit. USCB Assistant Professor of Studio Art Jon Goebel represents South Carolina with his work entitled “Lowcountry.”
While it takes its name from the traditional notion of a post card–an image traveling across country by mail–the exhibit presents serious works of art on a miniature scale from visual contexts with diverse impetus and purpose. Many of the works are two sided – and are installed to permit the patron to examine each surface.
The exhibit is free and open through August 31. The public is invited to a closing reception on Monday, August 30 from 5:30 – 7 PM. The USCB Art Gallery is located in the Performing Arts Center on the Historic Beaufort Campus, 801 Carteret Street, and is open to the public Monday through Friday 9 AM – 5 PM.
