Local photographer Karen Fuller Harvey invites you to see things her way.

Back by acclaim, the photography of K.Leigh Images is once again gracing the walls of the USC-B art gallery, courtesy Beaufort Performing Arts, through November 19th.

"Rise to the Challenge” is the fifth solo show by local photographic artist, Karen Fuller Harvey.  Harvey, 44, has come late to the game of photography, having pursued it in earnest only since she turned 40.  Through her lens, Harvey captures everyday vignettes without staging, artificially lighting, or digital alteration. The effect resonates through the viewer's soul, enhanced by the fact that her work is mostly printed on canvas and absolutely approachable.

"Rise to the CHALLENGE" showcases recent work by Harvey, who pushed through a variety of difficult shooting conditions to capture the art of the moment.

With two local solo shows in 2007 ("GENESIS" at  The Gallery on Bay St., and "PASSION (In the Ordinary)" at USC-B/BPA), a third, "CAPTURING THE FORT: Art Photography of Fort McClellan," debuting at the Berman Museum of World History in Anniston, Alabama, and a fourth, "DISCOVERY," which was also presented by BPA, Inc.last fall, Harvey’s photographic reach is expanding, yet still remains clearly personal.  With a keen eye for light (nurtured at the knee of her artistic mother), and an uncanny sense of spatial balance (nurtured through the car-trunk packing tutelage of her father), Harvey imbues her photography with a paradoxical 'a-ha!'/ennui sensibility which leaves the viewer wondering, "How come I never saw that before?"

Harvey's work may be viewed locally at The Gallery, on Bay St., in the form of Aquamarina, the mermaid which graces the porch of the Beaufort Art Association on the corner of Bay and Charles Streets, and as part of the photography show currently being displayed at Berry Island, which features award-winning photos from the Photography Club of Beaufort's October competition.

Since beginning her photographic journey, Harvey has worked not only as an artistic photographer, but also as a commercial, portrait and event photographer. Additionally, she is now being represented by the stock photography agency AGEfotostock, based in Barcelona, Spain.
