KathyCrowther-May-Fly-woodsonKathy Crowther moved to Beaufort so that she could be surrounded by an abundance of natural treasures.  Our rich landscapes are home to many native birds, each with a unique size, shape and color.

For the last 10 years, her paintings have focused on capturing the beauty of local birds in their natural settings.  Using gouache outlined in ink, these portraits are attempts to share her passion and foster an appreciation for the idyllic Lowcountry.

Over the years, Crowther has participated in juried shows throughout the country.  She has shown locally with Tom Brady in collaborative exhibits with his bird photographs and her interpretations. This year will be Kathy’s tenth year exhibiting at the Piccolo Spoleto Outdoor Art festival in Charleston’s Marion Square.  The show runs May 27th – June 12th.  Each year she brings a new body of work.  Her paintings range from formal bird portraits of egrets, herons and peacocks to whimsical renderings of parrots, sea turtles and ocean creatures. Many times Kathy spills over the mat, which adds another dimension to the painting and, like nature, a sense of continual growth.

You can also see Kathy’s “Great Blue Heron in Flight” non a local billboard.  She is one of the Beaufort Arts Council PopArt contest winners.
