For the second straight year, the Barbers of the Lowcountry’s Clipper Cup charity golf tournament exceeded its donation goal for Bluffton Self Help. The second annual tournament raised $3,000 for the Bluffton non-profit this year, an amount that is $500 more than tournament organizers had targeted. This year’s donation follows similar success from the inaugural event, which contributed $2,000 to Bluffton Self Help in 2018.
“This really, truly helps impact our neighbors in need, right here living in our community,” said Bluffton Self Help executive director Kimberly Hall.
The tournament, a captain’s choice format, was played July 13 on the Barony course at Port Royal Golf & Racquet Club on Hilton Head Island. Fourteen teams and 53 players participated. The team of Chris Hendrix, Amir Ajilani, Steve Bryant and Chris Marsh won with a score of 57.
The event also featured a raffle of prizes contributed by tournament sponsors. All proceeds from the tournament and raffle went to Bluffton Self Help, a non-profit that provides food, clothing, and educational and financial assistance to residents in need.
“We are so happy to be able to help out a great local organization like Bluffton Self Help,” said Brent Nelsen, owner of Barbers of the Lowcountry. “Thank you to all the volunteers who helped the event run so smoothly, all of our sponsors who contributed, and to the Port Royal Golf Club for hosting this year. And, of course, we’d like to thank all of the players who participated and made this such a fun and successful tournament.”
The main sponsors of the event were We Care Family Dentistry and Barbers of the Lowcountry. Other sponsors were: CS Thomas Construction, Mike Reichenbach Chevrolet, Mercedes Benz of Hilton Head, Alljoy Boat Care, EviCore Healthcare, Horizon Home Inspectors, Bluffton Pest Management, Tim & Barbara O’Connor, The McCarl Group, and Bragg Media.
