Re-tiring Made Easy

Like the majority of residents, I love living in Beaufort. And one reason is its abundance of “good neighbors,” people who go out of their way for strangers. This morning as I was turning on to the Woods Bridge, a woman pulled up beside me to tell me that my back tire was flat, that I was driving on the rim. I’d no idea. Contemplating the situation as I waited for a lovely sailboat with a mast that must’ve been 48 feet tall to pass through, I decided to limp across to the old White Hall turnoff and call AAA. This is the reason I pay for road service every year. Turns out, however, I didn’t have to use it.

Just complete the prompt “Once, when no one was looking…” in 750 words or less. Your story could net you $100 for first place, $50 for second, or $25 for third, and publication in Lowcountry Weekly.

Two Art Contests in Bluffton

The Greater Bluffton Chamber of Commerce and Society of Bluffton Artists (SOBA) announced two new art contests for Bluffton-area artists. One contest will tie into the Bluffton Business Awards and the other will support the Bluffton Boiled Peanut Festival this September. Artists of all ages and skill levels are encouraged to compete.

The Artist Saint Returns

After several years exhibiting at art festivals from DC to Miami, FL, local artist James St. Clair (aka The Artist Saint) will have a one man show at USCB for the month of August. An opening reception will be held on Monday, August 3rd from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. This will be the artist’s first one man show in Beaufort in many years.
