A few months ago, I closed a book and immediately posted the following on my Facebook page: “I just finished reading a novel for Story River Books, and I am reeling from its power. I’m not sure of the pub date, but don’t miss your chance to read The Vain Conversation by Anthony Grooms. I’m awestruck. If humanity is ever to evolve, if we are ever to rise to our potential – and that seems like a big “if” sometimes – I believe it won’t be through political squabbling and jousting for power, but through the great, brutal, compassionate vision of artists like this one. The next show at the Beaufort Art Association (BAA) Gallery will feature the work of ever-popular Lowcountry artist Tricia Gardner. The title of her show is “Coastal Color Unleashed,” and will run from Feb. 25 to April 29. Both visitors and locals alike are immediately drawn to Tricia’s expressive and exciting work. Her last show at the Gallery almost sold out. An artist’s reception will be held at the Gallery at 913 Bay Street in Beaufort on Friday, March 2, from 5 – 7:30 p.m.

They are the Beaufort chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society, the largest singing organization in the world with more than 23,000 members in the US. Barbershop-style quartets sing in four parts, unaccompanied and in close harmony, with the melody in the second voice.
