Nemours Wildlife Foundation will host “Mosaic Workshop: Creating Unique Coasters with Glass,” led by Beaufort artist Tatiana Tatum, on Friday, October 16, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Foundation’s property in the ACE Basin.

The workshop begins with a short guided walk to gather color and pattern ideas from the surrounding landscape (weather permitting). Participants then create a set of stained glass mosaic coasters, choosing from more than 20 colors of glass.

Tatum is a Beaufort-based painter whose work focuses on water and the Lowcountry landscape. She holds a BA in studio art from the University of South Carolina Beaufort and a master’s degree in chemistry. Her work is shown at Thibault Gallery in downtown Beaufort.

“Nature is the ultimate enriched environment, a source of creativity and joy. When Heather of Nemours pitched this idea, where observing nature immediately ties into art making, I jumped at the opportunity,” said Tatum.

“Nature can be enjoyed and appreciated in many forms. As the Education Coordinator at Nemours, my goal is to provide opportunities for people to enjoy and appreciate nature through diverse programs. Some people may enjoy spending a morning birding or taking a stroll to observe fall blooming wildflowers, while others prefer to capture a feeling, a scene, or an animal to create artwork. I’m excited to work with Tatiana Tatum to provide this unique experience on our property” said Heather Kraus, Education & Outreach Coordinator at Nemours Wildlife Foundation.

The workshop is open to adults. Cost is $60, and space is limited to 15 participants. Advance registration is required at nemourswildlifefoundation.org/event/mosaic-workshop.
