Acclaimed southern storyteller Pat Conroy (1945-2016) is best remembered as the author of a dozen beloved books, including The Water Is Wide, The Great Santini, The Lords of Discipline, and The Prince of Tides. The free, public presentation of The Faith of Pat Conroy will explore Conroy’s spiritual and humanistic faith as reflected in his turbulent life and bestselling books—from his Roman Catholic upbringing to The Citadel’s honor code to themes of spirituality in his writings to his life of service as a mentor to his fellow writers to his connections to his “second church,” First Presbyterian Church of Beaufort.
Holland Perryman & Jonathan Haupt
Presented by Jonathan Haupt, the executive director of the nonprofit Pat Conroy Literary Center and co-editor of Our Prince of Scribes: Writers Remember Pat Conroy, and Holland Perryman, Beaufort High School student body president and founder of DAYLO: Diversity Awareness Youth Literacy Organization, this community outreach program is offered in collaboration between Lowcountry Presbyterian Church and the nonprofit Conroy Center. Following a welcome by Pastor Chris Herrin, Haupt and Perryman will be introduced by Camp Conroy alumna Savannah Epps, a sixth-grader at Bluffton’s River Ridge Academy.
The Faith of Pat Conroy will be presented on Sunday, October 3, at 4:00 p.m. in the sanctuary at Lowcountry Presbyterian Church, 10 Simmonsville Rd, Bluffton. Masks are required for all attendees.
