Since 2000, Art League of Hilton Head has awarded an annual scholarship in the amount of $2000 to a graduating high school senior who is studying or living on Hilton Head Island and attending a local high school. This year the applicants who were interviewed were of such high caliber that Art League awarded two scholarships of $1,250 each.
The scholarship program encourages students to develop their artistic skills and pursue a career in visual arts. The funding of this scholarship is made possible through charitable donations made to Art League of Hilton Head.
Jordan Crosby plans to attend Winthrop University with a major in Visual Communications, focusing on Graphic Design and Illustration. As a student at HHI High School, Jordan is heavily involved in extracurricular activities; she’s in the Robotics Club, a technician for the school’s theatre productions and is a member of SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions). Jordan’s art has been exhibited in the Promising Picassos exhibit, the Seahawk Cultural Center and her work was entered into the 2017-18 USCB Emerging Artists Competition.
Abbigale Gross plans to attend Columbia College Chicago with a major in Photography with a focus in Fashion Photography. Abbigale hopes to one day become a photographer for Vogue or Elle Magazine. Abbigale is an International Baccalaureate Diploma Candidate at HHI High School. Upon taking IB Visual Arts, she completed an exhibit entitled “The Intersection of Science and Art,” which required a detailed portfolio of the process. Abbigale has been awarded Honorable Mentions from Scholastic Art and Writing, the Kurtzberg Award for her photography by the Camera Club of HHI, and has had work accepted into ISCA’s Promising Picassos Exhibit, ArtFields Jr. Art Competition and her work has been selected for submission in the Photographic Society of America’s Youth Competition.
