The Thibault Gallery, 815 Bay Street, Beaufort, will highlight Lowcountry marshes, seascapes, and waterfront scenes by Linda Sheppard during November.
Linda is better known by area art connoisseurs for her award-winning portraits and figure drawings, one of which has recently been selected for hanging at the Grand National Exhibition of the American Artists Professional League in New York City.
In this Thibault Gallery showing, Linda highlights her second and equal passion. Her fascination with the changing moods of the sea began years ago with a California workshop about painting the spirit or feeling of a subject. With the sea as a subject, she found herself freed to enter into a conversation among her own emotions – whatever they might be at the time – and the changing moods of sea and the light. As these intermingled in the process, Linda not only ended up unburdened and refreshed, but also found many times that a painting had emerged that spoke to others of the moods they had also felt.
These same methods have now been applied to her approach to recording the beauty and uniqueness of Lowcountry marshes and seascapes. Her hope is that viewers will bring their own feelings and responses to the work.
An opening “meet the artist” will occur at the Thibault Gallery’s traditional celebration of “First Friday” from 5 to 8 pm on November 4.
