pocotaligoOctober 21, 1862. 4400 Union troops sail out of Hilton Head and up the Broad River. Their orders are simple: destroy the tracks and bridges of the Charleston to Savannah Railroad and land a hammer stroke to cripple the Confederate war effort. The next morning near Frampton Plantation, in what is now called Point South, they clash with a vastly outnumbered force of 675 Confederates. The Federals are held at bay until the Charleston Light Dragoons provide reinforcements.

Early December 2012. Once more the Blue and Grey meet in a thundercloud of gun smoke on the same field of battle – the sesquicentennial re-enactment of the original conflict. The historic event is sponsored by the Lowcountry & Resort Islands Tourism Commission and organized by the Palmetto Battalion.

Lowcountry Weekly Publisher, Jeff Evans, was “embedded” with the Confederate troops for exclusive “BattleCam” video from the heat of the action.
