An exhibition of the art of longtime Hilton Head Island residents Jack and Irene Williamson opens with a reception and gallery talk by Irene Williamson on Thursday, September 13, at 2:00 pm. The exhibition is located at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute’s Hilton Head Island classroom at the Pineland Station Shopping center at 430 William Hilton Parkway, Suite 304A. The exhibit is free and opens to the public and will continue through December 7.
Jack and Irene Williamson have been leading Hilton Head artists over the past three decades. A graduate of Parson’s School of Design in New York City, the late Jack Williamson was a member of the South Carolina Watercolor Society, the Hilton Head Art League, the Southeastern Pastel Society, the Society of Illustrators, and the American Watercolor Society. Jack mounted distinguished exhibitions throughout the United States and received numerous awards for his work.
Irene Williamson’s work has been represented in numerous Lowcountry exhibitions. In 2005 she received the Award of Excellence in the Hilton Head Plantation Artists Annual Juried Show. More recently in 2007 she received the Best of Show award in the Society of Bluffton Artists’ Annual Judged show, and this year an award for her work at the Aiken Arts Center in Aiken, South Carolina. Locally her work can be seen at the Hilton Head Art League, the Society of Bluffton Artists and the Pluff Mudd Gallery in Bluffton. Internationally her work is in private collections in the United States, France, and the United Kingdom. Ms. Williamson works in mixed media including hand painted papers, found materials and objects and acrylic paints.
The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute provides not-for-credit, educational opportunities and experiences for adults age 50 and older at four Lowcountry locations including Bluffton, Beaufort, Hilton Head Island and Jasper County.
