Historic Mitchelville Freedom Park has confirmed an expansive experience for the in-person return to their annual Juneteenth Celebration. The art, food, music and film festival has expanded to a weeklong including the premiere of Juneteenth: We The People, Joe McGill of The Slave Dwelling Project hosting the Camp Experience, and plus over 30 art, craft, and food vendors in the park on Saturday. On Tuesday, June 14th A film documenting the national exploration of the pre-amble focused on the phrase “we the people”. Contributions to the film include America’s Black Holocaust Museum – Milwaukee,  August  Wilson African American Cultural Center – Pittsburg, Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History – Detroit, DuSable Museum for African American History – Chicago, Harvey Gantt Center for African American Arts + Culture – Charlotte, Historic Mitchelville Freedom Park– Hilton Head Island, National Civil Rights Museum – Memphis, Northwest African American Museum -Seattle, National Underground Railroad Freedom Center – Cincinnati, the National Civil Rights Museum – Memphis, TN, African American Museum in Philadelphia – Philadelphia, PA.  The film will stream for free on blkfreedom.org.

On Thursday, June 16th the Slave Dwelling Project comes to Historic Mitchelville Freedom ParkFounder Joe McGill, a Civil War re-enactor and descendent of the enslaved, has slept at over 90 sites in 18 states exploring extant slave dwellings and returns to Mitchelville for another transformative experience. Limited space is available for in-person attendance, but the evening will be streamed on Facebook at @exploremitchelville as he explores the life and living habits of the people of Historic Mitchelville Freedom Park.

On Saturday, June 18th the annual in park celebration will highlight the food and music customs of the people of Mitchelville and special performances by the legendary Voices of El Shaddai, historical re-enactment from a local favorite Cora Miller, a robust kid-zone including video games and make-and-take craft stations. The featured entertainment will be the renowned Infinity Band from Atlanta. Chairs are encouraged, but no coolers will be allowed in the park. Tickets are $20 for General Admission, $5 for children 6 -12 and free for children 5 and under.
