If you’re a man or woman aged 55 or better who is interested in playing organized softball, this is your chance. Senior Softball Beaufort is recruiting players for its spring season.

The league, entering its second season, currently boasts six teams of over 90 softball enthusiasts who enjoy fun, safe competition. The games are currently played at fields in Hilton Head and Bluffton, but players from the entire area are invited to play.

“We want players of all abilities and will build teams to foster friendships through fun and healthy competition,” says Rick Trenary, commissioner and one of the league’s co-founders.

“We’re looking for men and women who love the game of softball. Maybe they hung up their glove, not realizing that a senior league exists in our area,” David Hofmann, the other co-founder, says. “This league gives them a chance to continue to play, with rules adapted to make it safer, while still encouraging friendly competition.”

Each team includes players of all abilities – from tournament caliber to those who just want to have fun, without the beer league atmosphere, Trenary says.

The league, which is organized through the Beaufort County Parks and Recreation Administration, will hold conditioning/practice/scrimmages starting on or about February 19, 2022, to enable current players to stay active and new players to meet current players, get a feel for the rules of senior softball and understand how the league is run. Check the group’s website, www.seniorsoftball.com to find a schedule of sessions.

Hofmann and Trenary say that individuals interested in playing need to register at www.seniorsoftballbeaufort.com.

The league is also looking for team sponsors. Sponsorship fees of $750 include the county team fee and uniforms with the sponsor’s name and logo, plus equipment as needed. If you’re a business interested in sponsoring a team, contact Rick Trenary at (843) 247-2832.
