tomato-logoWith all the locally-grown festivals around here, it was bound to happen! The only question is – what took ’em so long? Beaufort’s 1st Annual Tomato Festival is Saturday, July 12th.

It promises to be juicy event featuring over 10,000 lbs of LOCAL tomatoes! The day will kick-off with runners lining up to compete in the first ever tomato obstacle run. Once crossing the finish line, runners will enter into an all-out tomato food fight! Eye protection required! After visiting a hose off station, the guests will enjoy a day of kids activities, live music, food and fun.

The Tomato Festival takes place on Cane Island from 10am to 7pm. Here’s the event schedule:

8 am – Registration/runners sign in
10 am – Kids Fun Run – ½ mile
10:30 am – Tomato Bash Obstacle Run 5K-Timed
11am – Tomato Bash Obstacle Run 5K
Noon – Tomato Fight
Kids Zone (open from 11:00 am – 4 pm)

Proceeds from the Tomato Festival go towards our local YMCA’s Annual Scholarship Campaign, giving kids a chance by offering discounted programs and memberships to families and children in need. This is a family focused event with all kinds of activities, food and entertainment to enjoy. So even if you don’t care for wearing your tomatoes . . . there’s something for EVERYONE!
