Homes for the Holidays Turns 10 at Habersham
The silver sparkles at this year’s Homes for the Holidays Tenth Anniversary Tour in the award-winning Habersham neighborhood where the vision for a holiday home tour in Beaufort all began. A celebration under Habersham’s marketplace tent will be underway commemorating ten successful years of holiday home design.
“Look for silver and white balloons,” says co-chair Mary Cunningham, “because it’s a party!” Saturday and Sunday, November 19 and 20, tour-goers will experience Habersham’s charm and its diversity. Habersham is New Urbanism, a small but significant difference in the world of traditional neighborhood design. The urban mansion flat, homes that line the parks and squares, and grand styles dotting the marsh are all on tour. “It’s elegant, classic architecture in a walkable neighborhood that’s draped in the natural beauty of the Lowcountry, with its own post office, marketplace, restaurants, and professional businesses,” states co-chair Elizabeth Dardes.
Eight private homes will be open for viewing with local interior and floral designers taking part. Returning to the tour are designers Sweet Bay on Bay, Outrageous Floral Design, designer Julie Terry, and Louise Uehling Interior Design. Participating this year are locally-owned partner businesses “M” Design and “M” Home & Garden, recently featured in Better Homes & Gardens and Southern Living. Newcomers are Interiors by Cheryl Lynn Smith and Barbara N. Yergens Interiors working with Lauren McAvoy of Branches, who has participated in previous tours. These designers donate their time and expertise ensuring the tour’s professionalism. Inspiration for your own holiday decorating will be gleaned from the many fresh ideas of these artistic individuals.
All proceeds benefit St. Peter Catholic School Endowment Fund, which assists families seeking a Catholic education for their children, but need assistance doing so.
A silver “Coastal Christmas” Anniversary Gala in St. Peter Walsh Palmetto Room kicks off the weekend tour Friday evening, November 18 at 7pm, with entertainment by the popular Headliners, catering by Southern Graces, and silent auction. Gala tickets are $75 per person and may be purchased by calling 522-6510. Tickets for the tour are $25 and may be purchased at the following Beaufort locations: The Chocolate Tree, Sweet Bay on Bay, and Tideland Realty. Tickets for the tour go on sale October 15.
