Art League of Hilton Head has awarded its annual $2,000 art scholarship to graduating Hilton Head Preparatory School senior Sophia Paris. The decision was based on her outstanding art portfolio, impressive GPA and glowing teacher recommendations. Sophia will be applying the scholarship to tuition at Tufts University this fall, where she plans to explore her passion for user experience design by double majoring in engineering psychology and studio arts with a concentration in Graphic Design.
Sophia described herself as a “generally overly-prepared” planner who leaves plenty of room for inspiration and creativity along the way. “When I prepare for a new piece, I research medium interactions and do countless sketches,” she says. “However, it’s the last-minute intuitive alterations I love the most. In this way, my approach to my art has mirrored my approach to life.”
Sophia is an Honor Roll student and president of Hilton Head Prep’s Global Citizenship Club, of which she
is a founding member. She also participated in The Experiment, a virtual exchange program with students from all over the world with the goal of designing solutions to problems like climate change and food insecurity. “Her genuine interest in service, artistic expression, and cultures has made her a recognized leader in our school community, by students and faculty alike,” says Louise Goodman of Hilton Head Prep, describing Sophia as “emotionally intelligent, diligent, and diplomatic.”
The Art League of Hilton Head scholarship program encourages students to develop their artistic skills and pursue a career in the visual arts. The funding of this scholarship is made possible through charitable donations made to Art League of Hilton Head.
