If you yearn to experience the joy of playing piano but don’t want to spend hours engaged in a traditional approach to learning to play, then a short course offered at the Technical College of the Lowcountry in chord piano techniques may be just what you need.
Instant Piano for Hopelessly Busy People is a proven, fun and relaxed approach to professional-style piano playing that sets the learner on a course to playing favorite tunes after only one session. The class will be offered from 6 to 9:30 p.m., Wednesday, July 13 at the TCL Beaufort Campus.
The class is primarily lecture and demonstration, and participants are not asked to play in front of anyone during the course. The cost to attend this class is $55 per person. In addition, there is a $25 materials fee paid directly to the instructor for the resources that enable participants to take what they learn in class and continue their piano experience at home. The class will be led by David Haynes, who has offered Instant Piano over the past ten years in over 100 college settings in twenty states.
“Playing by chords is the way popular piano players have always played and is appropriate when playing any type of popular music including gospel, country, blues, boogie, Christmas carols, show tunes, standards — anything except classical music written by the likes of Beethoven or Mozart,” Haynes said.
Haynes has taught music for 35 years and has a master’s degree in music education, teaching traditionally for much of the time. He now travels the eastern and mid-western United States inspiring thousands of people in his classes with his enthusiasm and love of music.
