The Hilton Head Choral Society is excited to kick-off it’s 2019-2020 concert season with a pops concert, SEPTEMBER SONG, “Music for Family and Friends” featuring the 75 voice chorus with orchestra at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 24 Pope Ave., Hilton Head Island.
This fall concert of music is meant to soothe the soul and lift the spirit with tunes from pop radio, inspirational favorites, Broadway shows and more. Artistic Director, Tim Reynolds, has selected a diverse repertoire of family-friendly pieces including: a tribute to Doris Day, songs from the films Mary Poppinsand the new Mary Poppins Returns,and Broadway favorites “Climb Every Mountain,” “You’ll Never Walk Alone,” and “The Impossible Dream.” A highlight of the evening promises to be “The Whole World Is Singing” with text in more than ten languages.
Special guest artists for the pops concert include local favorite Lori Maurer as well as the fifty voice 7th and 8th grade Garrison Voiceschorus from the Esther F. Garrison School for the Arts in Savannah, directed by John Tisbert. They will be performing with the Choral Society and singing selections of their own.
“Lori and theGarrison Voicesare definitely something we are excited about for the upcoming concert,” says HHCS Artistic Director, Tim Reynolds. “It allows our singers and our audience to enjoy a multi-generational experience.”
Each concert of the 44thseason promises to bring the passion and power of music to this year’s theme, “The Music in Us All.” As the longest running performing arts group on the Island, the HHCS’s performances always guarantee a night of memorable entertainment. Each 90 minute concert will begin at 7 p.m., an hour earlier than past seasons. It’s a great way to go out for an early dinner, enjoy the concert and be home in time for the news.
