‘Reddishes’ by Adam Clague

Friends and fellow living artists Adam Clague and TJ Cunningham will collaborate in a one-week painting showcase on Hilton Head in early October.

Adam received a Master of Fine Arts degree in 2010 and is a member of the Portrait Society of America, the American Impressionist Society, and signature member of the Oil Painters of America, working and teaching alongside his wife and fellow painter, Andrea Orr Clague. His award-winning work has been displayed in a variety of venues nationally and internationally, including the Salmagundi Club in New York City and the European Museum of Modern Art in Barcelona, Spain.

freshman in college under instruction from Adam, and he went on be recognized professionally by Southwest Art as an emerging artist in their “21 under 31” article in 2014. Since then, his landscape paintings have won awards from the PleinAir Salon, the Portrait Society of America, the Art Renewal Center, and the Oil Painters of America.

“Adam and TJ have impressive resumes with both national and international accolade for their work, respectively,” says Amy Wehrman, Art League Academy manager. “Both draw their inspiration and desire to create from a strong faith in God, and their impressionist work in oils shows impressive skill in still life, landscapes, and living portraiture.”

‘Cara Cara Coffee’ by Adam Clague

Adam Clague is an impressionist oil painter based in Kansas City, Missouri. His work reflects a fascination with dramatic backlighting, drawing continual inspiration from the way light illuminates semi-transparent items such as steam, plastic, and most of all—citrus fruits. “As with all my work, I seek to faithfully capture the beauty of God’s creation through an impressionistic lens.”

From Cambridge, Vermont, TJ was instilled with a need to create by his faith and the art careers of his family— specifically his grandfather, Michael Cunningham. “During my teen years, one of my first jobs was cleaning up after a flock of sheep, and now when I paint their portraits, I don’t stop until I can smell them.” TJ’s work is an homage to his childhood surrounded by the landscapes of small dairy farms, hills, and streams—all bursting with inspiration and awakening a desire to create.

Then men met and received degrees during their time at Pensacola Christian College, studying
