The Society of Bluffton Artists presents “The Nature of Art,” a collection of original acrylic paintings by local artist Stephen Moscowitz, on display January 6 -31.
Moscowitz is a skilled painter, relatively new to the Lowcountry, but with his artistic talent and willing volunteerism quickly becoming a valued member of the art community. Stephen joined the Society of Bluffton Artists just two years ago and already has been elected Vice President of the Board of Directors and has been responsible for many of the displays the SoBA gallery.
Stephen’s interest in art began at an early age with an introduction to illustration in high school. He graduated from the Rochester Institute of Technology School of Art & Design. Later in his career, he returned to teach illustration as an adjunct member of the RIT faculty. Working as an art director/designer in the advertising and publication industry for twenty years, Stephen’s drawing and painting skills resulted in a successful career as an illustrator. He has been given numerous awards for his design and illustration and much of his work has been published in books and magazines around the world.
Stephen has been strongly influenced by artists such as Maxfield Parrish, NC Wyeth and Norman Rockwell. These great illustrators opened the door onto a world of incredible beauty and vivid images that still inspire him to this day. Paintings of wildlife, landscapes, myths and humorous insights all convey a message, an inspiration or a giggle. His love for nature and its creatures, both real and imagined, is vividly shown in his varied works.
Don’t miss this fun and engaging show; please join us at a reception to meet the artist from 3 – 5 pm, on Sunday, January 12, at the SOBA Gallery. Enjoy refreshments, the art of Stephen Moscowitz, and the work of over 100 other member artists.
