Award-winning artist and visiting Boston native, Neil Rizos, will hold a 2-day workshop in January titled Learning to See for Drawing, Painting and Sculpture in January. In this studio workshop, held at Art League Academy, Rizos will help students focus on accurately seeing the subject matter that inspires their artwork.
Rizos believes that artwork cannot be accurate if one has not learned, and consistently applied, a method of visual analysis, providing the specific information needed to render an object accurately. The goal of this workshop is to effectively learn this method of analysis.
“Seeing is often a very vague and misunderstood term in the context of Art. Seeing is a learned skill, not a talent, which is the premise of this workshop,” explains Rizos. The workshop itself will consist of learning a proven method of visual analysis and using it to observe 2D images and 3D objects in order to draw, paint or sculpt them accurately. The workshop also reveals the power of this same method when applied to the element of color.
This 2-day workshop will be held Saturday & Sunday, January 12 & 13, 2019 from 9am to 3pm and costs $207 for Art League of Hilton Head members and $230 for non-members.
