Heat does crazy things to artists.

Sometimes the only way to survive it is to hide inside an air-conditioned studio chock-full of pastels, paper, paints—and permission to think outside the proverbial box.

That is exactly what happened during this scorcher of a summer. With an army of fire ants hell-bent on ringing the dinner bell at the first sight of a card-carrying artist—and mosquitoes making outdoor sketching nearly impossible—I had no choice but to retreat to a 70-degree haven.

Surrounded by opera and orchestra, the studio soon reached its own boiling point—with ideas.

My father was a clarinet-, saxophone-, and harmonica-loving man who lived in a time that afforded him very little opportunity to enjoy or play music. But he shared his love of a glorious note with me, and I proudly honor that gift.

I decided to introduce you to the stars of the orchestra—as well as the unsung heroes behind the tunes that make us smile—all painted in my playfully juvenile style. I hope you enjoy seeing, and perhaps even hearing, music from a slightly different perspective.

With my trusty, witty, and brilliant pal “Q” collaborating at a moment’s notice, we proudly present…

KEEPING COOL.
