Before migrating to South Carolina, Cynthia Zeiss retired as Executive VP of the largest privately owned medical billing company in New York State. She and her husband, Ralph, live on Lady’s Island where they enjoy the blending of their two families. She can now concentrate on her true passion, creating art. Her studio at home has been a priceless gift.
It was a trip to China that filled her senses with the many wonders of silk, specifically the flow of paint and dyes on its fibers. This has brought her new excitement and her scarves have become very popular in the boutiques and galleries of Beaufort.
Painting on silk provides a vivid and even extraordinary intensity of colors as they come alive in her work and give a unique perspective to her subjects. Painting on fabric allows her to express ideas different from those on paper or canvas inspiring her to design wearable art as well as framed silk paintings.
Zeiss’s exhibition, The Soul of Silk, will be paired with framed silk paintings with a coordinated, one of a kind silk scarf. The display of her work will be at the Beaufort Art Association 913 Bay Street, September 15-October 26. The public is invited to an opening reception Friday, September 20, 5:30pm – 7:30pm.
