A collection of artist John Gale Kenney’s work, entitled “Coastal Kaleidoscope: A Colorful Expression of Life in the Low Country” will be featured at the Beaufort Art Association (BAA) from June 30 through Sept. 1. An opening reception will be held at the Gallery at 913 Bay Street in Beaufort on Friday, July 5, from 5 to 8 pm. Light refreshments will be served. There will also be on exhibit the work of 65 other local artists, who are members of the Gallery. The public is invited.
A native of Pittsburgh, PA, Kenney is the son of an artist. Although a science major in college, he studied painting with Paul Edwards and was influenced by a friend of Paul’s, Andy
Warhol. The visual pop-art movement of the period spoke to John, and he found inspiration in the industrial city-scape of his native Pittsburgh. Kenney went on to pursue a career as a plastic surgeon, and turned to painting as a means of expression. His work has been characterized by his sense of composition and use of color. His skills were refined by his studies with Rick Weaver in Charlottesville, VA. Kenney works in oil and focuses on figures, still life and the every day. He and his wife currently reside in the Lowcountry. Much of his more recent works reflect the water, landscape & people of the Lowcountry. His works are in private collections throughout the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic. He exhibits in Virginia and South Carolina.
Chartered in 1957, the Beaufort Art Association (BAA) is a tax-exempt membership organization. Currently, there are around 175 local artists who are members, 75 of whom exhibit in the Gallery.
