Some of us sacrifice everything for a few moments of pleasure. Others? They sacrifice everything for a few moments of avoidance. Not to be reductive, but is there really any difference at the end of the day? Either way, every refuge has its price.

I should say this more often: My random statements and questions may seem unconnected, but that’s up to you. Also, you may think I’m referring to one thing, but if it speaks to another subject, then go with it. Check for cross-pollination. That’s a thing, you know. Sometimes us woo-woo types just can’t help but to have a touch of enigmaticness. At this stage, I strive not to merge into pretentiousness. That said, enigmas have their place, sometimes because there’s no other way to put things. The subject matter lends to that. Is enigmaticness a word? It is now.

Back to the subject matter, since we’ve only got a “New York Minute’s” worth of attention... My favorite band, the Eagles, comes to mind here: You can’t hide those lyin’ eyes and give the best of your love at the same time because your smile becomes a thin disguise. (Golly, I hear them now.) One of these nights…

It’s a given that everybody wants to rule the world, but you only get tears for those fears. Just so we’re clear, it’s okay if you’re not a player and just crush a lot, as long as you’re honest about it and don’t become a big pun bunny.

It occurs to me that there’s a ton of arrogance involved thinking your generation knows better than the next—thinking they feel the same way you did at a certain age. No one likes you when you’re 23. Ask Blink 182. What’s my age again, I muse during my 51st bday weekend? The generations after you have their unique challenges, rewards, and hard lessons to learn just like your particular generation did and the one before that and the one before that and, well, this is the way of things.

Your generation was likely viewed with the same disdain too. How bout this? Pass the baton, remain teachable, and refuse to waste the wisdom you’ve earned on those that are perceived as not being wise enough to listen. It’s okay if they seem stoopid, they’re probably very tough if they’ve survived so long.

Bravo, you’ve cleared things so the next generation doesn’t have to. This is totally me not trying to be a clever smarta$$ here: Please give yourself credit for this, whatever this is. Life can be hard, and sometimes it comes at you too fast to make well-meditatedout decisions. Here’s an opportunity for self-forgiveness…

Money isn’t the only way to leave a legacy, so what’s being avoided if we have more than enough? As long as you’re taking care of your emotional and mental health, then have at it. The trick is when being sooo freaking busy all the time merges into avoidance like the person putting on brakes merging into I-95. After all, we’re here to learn from one another. If you don’t believe that, I have nothing more to say.

Seriously, stop reading.

“If you ask the grass, the zebra is the monster and the lion is the protector.” (African proverb.) For a demon like______, hell would be easy—home. Just because that person is “your” bully doesn’t mean they’re bully for you.

Let’s try a little reframe for a beat: If you feel a quagmire creeping in like the tide, try pretending you are on your deathbed. Imagine you get one chance to come back to your younger self for a day, and see how that frees you up. Breathe… Forgive it. You’ll never forget, but its bitterness fades with perspective. Really get into it, now. Don’t you just love the smell of pluff mud in the morning?

All the Thompson Twin flames wanted were to be held now. They needed their cold and tired heart warmed. If you want the Bobby Brown of it all, that’s your prerogative. Consider that if you’re too hot to handle and too cold to hold, no one will know what to do with you.

If everything you offered wasn’t enough, offer your absence. Salt isn’t on the menu, but when it’s missing you feel it.”(@sortedquotes)

Remember that something better is within grasp. Notice I didn’t say within groping range, but within grasp. Stay on target—stay open to it not looking like you wanted, but looking how you need it to. For the other side doesn’t speak through thunder and lightning, but with a gentle, cleansing rain. Doesn’t have to be a gully-washer. Baptism isn’t what we think it is. Do you think it plausible that in yesterdays long gone bye, baptism originally meant intentionally drowning someone so they could actually meet Jesus? Think Crusades, among other dark times in human history. Interesting take, but very plausible, right? Oh, did I mistake you for being open-minded? You probably walk around proclaiming you don’t judge, but judgy is so thick in your accent.

Elegance is embodying, not inhabiting. Love is louder than fear if you listen. Flesh thingsout before you shout them from the mountaintops. You worry way too much for someone who always figures it out.”(@melrobbins)

That was then, this is now. Now we know better. Thanks for listening to the meandering stream of thoughtfulness.
