WANTED: Artists For Humanity!
Habitat for Humanity has put out the call to out to local artists: They need birdhouse painters!
25th will be the 5th Annual Habitat for Humanity Birdhouse Auction, Habitat’s major fundraiser of the year. Habitat is looking to make this the biggest, best auction ever!
Along with their standard birdhouses, Habitat has woodworkers creating “specialty” houses – bat houses, butterfly houses, dog houses, and more! They’re looking for artists willing to take these special structures over the top!
For the first time ever, Habitat will invite the public to vote for their favorite birdhouses in different categories, including Lowcountry, Patriotic, Unusual, Whimsical, and Best in Show.
They’ve also added a category of “celebrity” birdhouses, designed by the likes of Jim Lovell, Walter Cronkite, Hank Aaron, and the Lowcountry’s own Pat Conroy and Cassandra King.
Habitat for Humanity does so much for our community, helping people in need to become truly self-sufficient. What could be a better gift? By donating your time and talent to creating a birdhouse for the auction, you’ll help enable this wonderful organization to continue its vital work.
Anyone interested in donating a birdhouse should call 522-3500, or stop by the Habitat office at 616 Parris Island Gateway, where unfinished birdhouses are available.
